Service & Ministry

Community service is an important part of the OLW curriculum and students participate in several all-school service projects throughout the year. The largest all-school service project occurs at Thanksgiving, when every grade from PK to 8th grade adopt a family, usually through Catholic Charities or our St. Vincent DePaul Society. The students bring in food and money to donate a full Thanksgiving meal to these local needy families.

Other service projects have included:
Creating placemats for the homebound in our parish
Christmas shopping at Target for community families in need
Collecting toiletries for the Little Sisters of the Poor
Making Blessing Bags or Snack Bags for PADS

On the faith side, students are encouraged to go deeper in their faith through Altar Serving and Encounter for Middle School Students.

Altar Servers
– Have you ever watched the servers at Mass and wondered what it is like to be up on the altar during Mass? We are looking for students in 4th grade and up who want to participate in Mass in a new way. Altar Servers assist at Sunday Liturgies, School Liturgies, Holy Day Liturgies. Altar Serving is a ministry, and servers and their families must make a commitment to timely attendance and attention to the schedule. Training is offered a few times a year.

Encounter Middle School Ministry – for 6th – 8th graders. These are once a month meetings with our Youth Minister and a chance for students to go deeper in their faith. It’s also a chance to get to know classmates in a new way. Snacks are provided!
