School Advisory Board

The School Advisory Board currently comprises nine members who serve rotating three-year terms. The purpose of the Our Lady of the Wayside School Advisory Board is to broadly represent the parish at large in our communal task of educating the students of Our Lady of the Wayside School.

The OLW School Advisory Board is responsible for:

  • Developing policies that enable the school to meet its goals
  • Reviewing and advising on the annual school budget
  • Setting school tuition rates, fees and charges in collaboration with the Pastor and Principal, Operations Director and Finance Council
  • Working with the pastor to screen, interview and hire the school principal
  • Acting as the public relations arm of the school
  • Performing such other duties as may be specified in the Constitution or assigned by the Pastor
  • Representing its constituency
  • Reviewing and revising the Strategic Plan.

The SAB invites and appreciates your interest. The Constitution states that any parent or member of the parish may formally petition the SAB with a request to consider recommendations, proposals or other matters relating to the operation of the educational facilities of the parish. Such petitions must be submitted in writing to the Secretary of the SAB at least two weeks prior to the meeting at which formal consideration is proposed. This procedure allows parishioners to discuss with the SAB any matter requiring formal consideration. Ordinarily, policies and other proposals introduced at a board meeting are discussed and voted upon at subsequent meetings. More details about the SAB can be seen in the Revised Constitution Approved 04.15.2019

The Board, in conjunction with the Pastor of Our Lady of the Wayside Parish, shall be responsible for implementing the Elementary School Policy of the Archdiocese of Chicago. The policies of the Archdiocese shall be policies of the Board. The Board shall be responsible for developing, formulating, and recommending to the Pastor of the Parish such additional policies relating to educational activities and operation of Our Lady of the Wayside School as may be required or reasonably helpful. After recommendations of the Board are approved by the Pastor, they become official policies of the Board and shall be binding on the Board, Pastor, Principal, faculty, staff, parents, and students of the school. Board policies shall be consistent with and shall not contradict Archdiocesan policies.
