Every week, students and teachers come together to light the advent calendar and celebrate the coming of the Christ Child, Jesus. The Advent Prayer Service includes an Advent Prayer, petitions, a reflection and a Gospel reading, all led by OLW teachers. All classrooms are reading the book, Jesus Calling: The Story of Christmas, by Sarah Young. This children’s book teaches children that Jesus has always been present and that God has always had a plan for each of us. The message of this story will connect to each Advent Prayer Service on Friday mornings in December.

The Virtue for December is Prayerfulness and the students will be creating a prayer chain. Each student will create their own prayer after reflecting on the the book, Jesus Calling: The Story of Christmas, and by thinking about their own call from Jesus. The prayers will look different for each students, but that is what makes this activity so beautiful and meaningful. The prayer chain will be presented at one of the Advent Prayer Services.
