Mr. Tom Smith joined the O.L.W. faculty beginning with the 2004-05 school year. His first year he taught 5th grade. This year (2009-10) is his sixth year here at OLW, and is his fifth year in Room 118, teaching 4th grade. Mr. Smith teaches several different subjects, but he specializes in teaching Math on the 4th grade team.

Mr. Smith grew up in Utah and graduated from the University of Utah. This makes him a "Runnin' Ute"! He worked in the Journalism field for many years... first as a reporter/photographer (for 5 years) for a weekly newspaper in Utah. He moved to Illinois in 1981, and he worked for 11 years for a trade magazine serving the grocery industry.

Mr. Smith adopted teaching as his new career in the early 1990's. He attended Teacher Certification classes at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. He taught in Chicago for one year and then, in 1993, arrived at Queen of the Rosary School in Elk Grove Village. He spent 11 years there, teaching mostly 5th grade, but also, for a time.... 4th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.

Mr. Smith enjoys sports, music, reading, movies, crossword puzzles, and getting together for fun times with friends. He also enjoys traveling when he can.

Mr. Smith LOVES being at Our Lady of the Wayside. It really is a great school and a wonderful community!
