6th Grade ELA

My goal for all of my students is to increase their love of reading. I will be offering my students multiple opportunities to select their own reading material,  while I monitor their progress and understanding in a varieties of ways, on a regular basis. and Throughout the year, we will be doing multiple novel studies as a group, independently, and in small groups.  In addition, we will be practicing a variety of writing styles, while focusing on the “6 Traits of Writing.”

7th Grade Social Studies

Throughout the school year, we will be studying the history of the United States, including the US Federal Constitution, as well as the Illinois State Constitution.  We will be focusing primarily on the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and the Reconstruction period. The students will have multiple opportunities to analyze primary sources, as well as to analyze historic events that helped to shape our country.

6th Grade Trip to Camp Timber-lee

In the spring, the 6th graders will be able to attend an overnight trip to Camp Timber-lee.  While at Camp Timber-lee, the 6th graders will be participating in team building activities, archery, and zip lining, to name a few.  This is a fun Wayside tradition, that is sure to be enjoyed by all!
