Buddy Program

Buddies, Not Bullies Program

In 2010, we began the year with a celebration of our school by focusing on Respect. Ideals of Respect were emphasized through the message “Buddies, Not Bullies.” To emphasize the buddy concept, each class was partnered with another class from a different grade level. The buddies met early in the school year and decorated puzzle pieces which are on display in the library corridor. These pieces represent how we are all united as one caring body of Catholic Christians. The buddies have sat together at School Masses, and will continue to do so in the future.  We have been working to remind our students that we want to be kind and respectful to each other at all times. One way this was emphasized was through the use of the following Anti-bullying Pledge:

  • We will not accept bullying at Our Lady of the Wayside.
  • We will support respectful friendships.
  • We agree that it is everyone’s responsibility to stop bulling.
  • We will:
    • Treat others with fairness and respect.
    • Find ways to help others join games and other activities.
    • Speak out against bullying.
    • Report bullying to an adult.
    • Refuse to bully others.
    • Help others feel safe and comfortable in our school.

This pledge was adapted from the Committee for Children.

While we focus on the concepts of Responsibility and Safety, we will continue to intertwine the important message of being a “Buddy, Not a Bully” throughout the year.
